Tagged by [profile] gorogues , over a month ago. It’s been a busy time, I’m sorry.

Author’s name: PepperCat at AO3.

Fandoms you write for: Just the Rogues.

Where you post: AO3.

Most popular one-shot: My first one - “They fill you with the faults they had/And add some extra, just for you.” in which we see what Hartley was doing during episode 10 of season 1. (I suppose I might get a different reaction if I started dividing kudos by number of days a fic had been up, but I do not have the wherewithal to do that at this point in time.)

Most popular multi-chapter story: Again, my first one - “I Came Here For You”, in which Len and Hartley rob his parents. (Hartley’s parents, to be clear. I mean, that could probably be inferred.)

Favourite story you wrote: Right now, it’s a three-way split between the fluffy low-stakes AU of “I’m Not Gay But My Boyfriend Is”, the anxiousness of “Though you try to drown him I can hear him singing.” and the grimness of “The Madness of Cuckoos”.

Story you were most nervous to post: “Don’t you want to take a ride with me?”

How do you choose your titles? There’s a lot of swearing, honestly. I mean a lot. Usually I aim for a mangled quote of something, but occasionally I just pick elements from the work and it works out– “Whiskey, Puppy, and the no-eared dog” us my favourite of those.

Do you outline? Only if I feel like bits of the story aren’t clear in my head. (This happens a lot with dialogue, by the way.)

How many of your stories are…
…complete? 38.5 of them, in that “Before, During, After” should have actually been a collection, not a multi-chapter fic. Everything currently written in that one is complete, but there’s another thing I want to do.

…in progress? 0.5, see above.

…coming soon: *sobs*

Do you accept prompts? Nope. I am chronically contrary about writing instructions, so I suspect nobody would be happy with the result, and I have so much I want to get out on my own anyway.

Upcoming story you are most excited to write: The no-powers crime AU, the Axel and Shawna fic, at least two Lisa and Hartley fics (one with Ray Palmer!), a handful of more-scenes-than-fics things, the one with Hartley and Coffee, at least two more about Axel’s backstory, that thing with the handcuffs, and also the explosion-free distraction…

Hi. Can you tell I’m vapour-locked about this.

I’m back!

Toronto was lovely. My two favourite posters from the exhibit (pardon the bad photography):

I love the grin the Monster has in the first one (and was amused that the poster is Yet Another “actually, Frankenstein was the scientist” example), and the weirdly lucent effect on the Invisible Man in the second (the poster was painted before they knew how they were going to do the special effects; the reflection on the glass makes it hard to see, but it really reminded me of the glow you see through your fingers when you hold them up to a bright light).

windona:

“Think of all the lives Batman could save if he could kill the Joker” Please! Joker is a serial killer with a theme, prisons IRL would be able to hold him and the only reasons DC ones can’t is due to writers and the fact nobody in the DC universe wants to be a prison guard.

You just don’t want to admit that Man of Steel’s General Zod, who has a ton of super powers in a world just learning about Kryptonians and having zero way to contain or restrain him, is a better example of a villain that a hero might be justified in killing, because a) that would be to admit MoS wasn’t complete garbage and b) that the Joker is overhyped.

Before getting into who is and isn’t justified in killing people, I feel like it’s worth backing up and considering that bitching about how a goddamn civilian volunteer is not willing to commit murder is also a highly questionable tack to take.

beerecordings:

Portrayal of Aunt May really tells you a lot about whether or not the writers drink their respecting women juice like everybody was all “Aunt May should be a fun and engaging character” and the most recent live-actions went “We’ll make her YOUNG and HOT BOOM DONE” and meanwhile Into the Spiderverse went “oh okay yes so she should be intelligent and competent and bad-ass!! she’ll play a role in the story and help our hero on his way!! she’ll be kind and welcoming even though she’s grieving!! she’ll keep her wrinkles and grey hair and sharp nose and have a cocky smile and love her nephew very much and also kick villains out of her house!!!!!!!” and like. who respected her character more let me ask you

I am living for an actress in her mid-fifties being declared YOUNG and hope that everyone who liked this post remembers that the next time there’s another round of bitching about how people in their 20s are too old for Tumblr.

Yaywait.

Yay for the long weekend! In the spirit of [profile] productivityhour, figuring out what I want to do:

suitcase unpacked (hush, I came back and got sick)

couch cleared

book finished

writing!

reading a story for crit

meeting a friend for coffee

all clean laundry put away

back yard. raspberries. what do.

two sweater seams

unstuck in Fallout 76

drafts put away

end-of-month things (post, next month plan)

I feel like I could do more, but I always feel like I could do more. So this time I’m going to aim low and get to enjoy the long weekend if I can.

Progressing:

suitcase unpacked (hush, I came back and got sick)

couch cleared

book finished

writing!

reading a story for crit

meeting a friend for coffee

all clean laundry put away - in progress; all clean dry laundry put away, some still drying

back yard. raspberries. what do. - what do determined!

two sweater seams

unstuck in Fallout 76

drafts put away

end-of-month things (post, next month plan)

Progress!

Halfway through the weekend:

couch cleared - in progress

book finished

meeting a friend for coffee

all clean laundry put away - in progress; all clean dry laundry put away, some still drying - dammit this last T-shirt is still damp

back yard. raspberries. what do. - what do determined!

two sweater seams

end-of-month things (post, next month plan) - in progress

I’m feeling pretty optimistic about all this.

And with one day left:

couch cleared - in progress

all clean laundry put away - in progress; all clean dry laundry put away, some still drying - dammit this last T-shirt is still damp

back yard. raspberries. what do. - what do determined! ow.

two sweater seams

end-of-month things (post, next month plan)

Can possibly do this, we will see.

*quiet pleased drumroll*

couch cleared

two sweater seams despite my cat deciding to lounge on teh sweater pieces and purr enthusiastically

A good weekend.

Three-quarters of the way through the year, yeesh.

I still have 35 fics on my to-do list.

I have… well. Currently I have nine things to revise, and one that I am *going* to need to revise because I’m getting notes back on Tuesday, and that novella thing I was working on is done but right now it needs to sit a little before I take another hack at it. Still. We’ll call it 11 things that I need to revise, and 2 more that I need to write. So 13.

…it was 13 last month, too. This despite the fact that I spent the parts of last week when I wasn’t wheezing up muck completing revisions on two different stories. I’ll probably get rejections for them back soon. We’ll see. They’re done, anyway, and I think they’re better.

I am down (yes, down, go me) to 248 books (from 272 books last month) at the intersection of “owned” and “to-read” in Goodreads. This is progress. I am proud.

Still haven’t finished sewing together the sweater. Hopefully soon. Finishing is such a pain.

My “so-and-so has posted…” notifications from AO3 are at 141, out of 365 unread emails (38.63%).

For GYWO: 89 days of writing so far.

Yaywait.

I am home.

Today is a day of catching up. And possibly sleep. And muttering about how the LOML did not even go to the con but somehow he caught something and now that we are home it is just hitting me. So much muttering.

(and moisturizer. It is so dry now that– oooooh, now that I am not in a port city! Right.)

Whooo WorldCon.

Okay. I left home Tuesday, got into Dublin Wednesday, found out we couldn’t check in yet, went to a ship museum to kill time, I fell asleep in the hotel lobby before we got our room, and staggered out to meet people for Wednesday dinner after a long nap.

The con started Thursday and that has been pretty much my entire focus except for time carved out for (1) meals, (2) the LOML who is not attending the con, and (3) seeing people who are usually in entirely different countries from me. Usually these overlap some.

I am having a fantastic time and have written one of my pens completely dry; I have 24 handwritten pages of panel notes. I also have way fewer new books than I was worried I might end up with; I am trying to be mindful about that, bluntly, and it seems to be going okay.

I got a Seanan McGuire book and an Alex Wells book signed. The weather has finally stopped being gross. I have so many fantastic new recs and some bubbling ideas. I have met some fantastic people. I am getting up on Dublin time, but appear to be going to sleep on EST, and am really hoping I can fix this soon. And I am glad.

Is it weird that my only reaction to Automattic buying Tumblr is “oh good, maybe there’ll finally be decent tag management”?

And I’m off to Dublin. Going to be a bit scattered here - I would give a lot for a queue-pausing function, let me tell you what.

The light of my life and I have maybe five hours of sleep between us and all the busses are coming down the road from the wrong direction. But the weather is lovely!

I have had a small, very bitter coffee and am being assessed by what appears to be the world’s biggest goddamn seagull.

Sleeeeeeeeep.

I have absolutely nothing that I have to do today, and only one thing that I might maybe need to do tomorrow!

Writing might happen later. For now, I have dropped $2.09 on a post-apocalyptic Steam game and am living my best life with some coffee.

I still have 35 fics on my to-do list.

I have 13 things to revise or write. This month I focused on the rewrite of one of them, and in additional to my four-day no-internet-and-no-writing trip and my full-time job and the kind of ridiculous amount of reading I did (see below), I managed to get just over 17,400 words down. I’m nearly done that one - there’s one ‘chapter’ left, and it’s going to be a longish one, but I know how it’s going to go.

(Then the revising. Oh, damn, the revising. If you hear crying from here, that’s me.)

I am up to 272 books (from 242 last month) at the intersection of “owned” and “to-read” in Goodreads. Yes, I am having a quiet conniption over this. That said, I finished 8 full-length books, 2 novellas, 8 graphic novels, and some stuff I didn’t track in Goodreads this month, so it’s a lot better than it could have been.

I have finished all the pieces for my sweater. Next I sew bits together and knit on the collar.

My “so-and-so has posted…” notifications from AO3 are at 168, out of 342 unread emails (49.12%).

Okay, committing for [profile] productivityhour‘s weekend. By Sunday night, I will:

edit 150 pages

go running

buy a phone case

pay bills

maybe weed the back yard (the humidity has it being over 40C/104F today and possibly tomorrow, there’s a limit to how much outside time I’m willing to deal with)

see friends for dinner

do all the laundry

provide story crit

break 10,000 words on that damn novella

resign from a time commitment

clear out twenty emails

update my Hugo voting

finish a book

Alright. Those are things like progress.

Okay, so far:

edit 150 pages - maybe? 2/5ths of the way done, but currently on hold while I see about a less painful file format to work with.

go running

buy a phone case

pay bills

maybe weed the back yard (the humidity has it being over 40C/104F today and possibly tomorrow, there’s a limit to how much outside time I’m willing to deal with) - yep, nope, the humidex hit 45 (which is 113 in Farenheit). Not this weekend.

see friends for dinner - yay!

do all the laundry - in progress

provide story crit

break 10,000 words on that damn novella

resign from a time commitment

clear out twenty emails

update my Hugo voting

finish a book - yes, another one. Yes, I have finished five graphic novels, seven books, and a teeny chapbook so far this month. My tsundoku pile is still higher than it was at the end of June and yes, I know.

Not everything I hoped for today, but a lot. I’ll see how tomorrow goes.
