Again, from the fanfic ask meme:

1. What is your favorite fic you have under your belt?

*stares at them*

You know you’re not getting just one, right?

“The Madness of Cuckoos” is my favourite for standalone dark. “I’m Not Gay But My Boyfriend Is” holds a special place for being an apparent no-powers no-criminals AU in which relationship problems are happily and honestly dealt with. “I Came Here For You”, although choppy, was my first chance to play around with characters mis-perceiving each other and have Hartley come close to being the utter badass I do believe he is.

2. What is your favorite snippet of dialogue?

It’s not a real surprise–I’m pretty sure everyone who read it saw it coming–but Rachel Rathaway’s “I’ve found a place where they can fix you.” in “I Came Here For You” was the first time I felt like I really landed a heartstab line, so there’s some fondness for that.

For humour, I liked Hartley’s flat “Our heater would melt.” when a pneumonia-addled Axel suggests that Mick can make sure they don’t run out of hot water in “Security”.

11. What’s a fanfic idea you haven’t done yet?

I… I have a list of thirty-five of them, and one of them has a sub-list.

Axel as a kid. Something with Earl Povich. How Hartley found Coffee (the biggest of his rats). Thea dropping by to visit Hartley in Central City. Axel and Shawna hanging out (three of those, oddly). Lisa poking at Hartley. Like, I have so many…

15. Give us a snippet of something from your WiPs!

She isn’t wearing her housecoat anymore. There is like a strip down the front of her nightgown that is red and wet. Her face is white as lamplight.

“Leo left, baby.” Her eyes are wide, but she touches his shoulder and that seems to help. She looks at him properly. “Axel. I need to fix something, okay? You *have* to go to your room and get dressed. Can you do that? Go right to your room and get dressed like we’re going out to the park. Can you do that?”

For the fanfic day ask meme:

It’s funny, I can actually pinpoint this: this post by [profile] out_there_on_the_maroon that mentions telling citizens to start RogueBounding to avoid being taken hostage. I’d never heard of Rogue-bounding - I’d seen a couple of outfit collections for Rogues before (mostly Len, TBH), but I didn’t know there was a term for it other than “casual cosplay”, which is how I referred to it before (and how I still do, TBH).

But I started thinking about what kind of person might do that in a world with the Rogues, and how it might play out specifically if they actually ran into one of their… inspirations? And it sat in the back of my head for a while, and kind of bounced off both the content of the s4 Trickster episode (seriously, both Axel and Zoey behave in ways that reflect fandom so hard) and my reaction to it, and then I wrote it down.

(You may notice that I write really slowly. I saw the post in April 2017, I had a “casual cosplay” vague idea by the end of July 2017 (enough to toss it onto my “one-shot WIPs and emotional clutter” post - I need to write more of those, I think), and actually posted the fic on AO3 in July 2018. If I’d gotten it out faster it might have been less… grumpy? dark? but no bets.)

secondratevillain:

I’d like to blame [profile] peppersandcats and this image of Devon Graye for me wanting Axel Walker to have a dog.

No I didn’t spend the better part of an hour swearing because PhotoGrid didn’t have the right layout and PicCollage wouldn’t let me crop things.

(Self-indulgent aesthetic for my “Whiskey, Puppy, and the No-Eared Dog” fic, and I swear I would swap out that lower left nosebleed for something else now if it wouldn’t take me nearly half an hour.)

Love, Committed. - PepperCat - AO3:
Fandom: The Flash (TV 1990), The Flash (TV 2014)Mature / No Archive Warnings Apply / 2191 words (complete)Characters: Megan Lockhart, James Jesse, mentioned Axel Walker, mentioned Zoey “Prank” ClarkAdditional Tags: Dark, Obsession, Unreliable Narrator, Implied/Referenced Rape/Non-con, Family Drama, Negotiations, Conversations, Sleight of Hand, Past Relationship(s), Character Study

Summary: Of all the women he ever loved, she’s the only one who lived long enough to return his feelings.

This is apparently the only fic on AO3 tagged as Megan Lockhart/James Jesse. And that’s really, really okay.

Rating is for things referenced in the content, not for smut.

Spun up out of James Jesse wearing what could have been a wedding ring in his S2 appearance, really, and rewatches of the 1990 show episodes that involved him.

Also, because this involves not one but two series of The Flash TV show, I feel okay with filling out my “The Flash” square for [profile] dctvbingo .

This one has been on the back burner for a ridiculously long time. I’d take it out and pick away at it when I was feeling under the weather and wanted to whine, and I finally got it done.

<3 Thank you, anon! That’s really sweet of you to say, and it means a lot. I’ve managed to start writing again but there’s a lot going on right now - hopefully I’ll have something more up soon.

(If it helps any, most of them are not not canon? So you can imagine they’re what’s going on around the edges and between the seasons.)

magnetohmy:

one of my favorite things right now is the nightly emails I get from AO3 telling me all the people who left kudos on my fics. it always makes me feel incredibly happy to see that people like them, even the old ones. makes me want to keep writing.
bold-sartorial-statement:

I got the best one today

One reader kudosed almost all my works in one fandom. I don’t know them, but I love them
I got one of those once.

I still have the email in my inbox. ♥️

Summary (ch 6): A resolution, of a kind.

Summary (ch 7): And this is why Thea Queen has trouble taking Central City supervillains seriously.

A long odd paean to my fascination with miscommunication, and Axel and Hartley’s differing expectations of behaviour, but it’s done. I hope it was at least somewhat entertaining, and I promise to work on something else next year.

Summary: Speaking of things spiralling. (But there is, at least, a less-fraught tangent.)

Very little happens, I suppose, especially since I trimmed out a short scene in which action was actually taken. Nonetheless, it’s up and I think I’m nearly done.

The clipped scene would have happened at the first text break - after Axel falls asleep, before he hits the third day - and it follows here:

Piper’s out doing whatever the hell he was supposed to be doing for Cold and Axel gets to actually be sure he won’t be around for a bit and that makes it easier to think. A little. And yeah, he thinks about leaving.

Thinking about leaving means he remembers why he can’t, he remembers Jesse, and that helps. He needs the Rogues more than they need him right now, and he can cope with whatever he needs to do to stick around and find Jesse and get him to be okay again. That’s the point, that’s how it works, he can do it.

He just doesn’t know what it is, or why it isn’t already happening.

At least in Iron Heights he got how things worked.

(Also in Iron Heights it was a lot harder to find anything to take the edge off and keep from spinning out. It’s not enough to really fix his mood or anything, but Axel will take what he can get right now.)

He’s waiting in the living room when Piper comes back so late it’s early, but before he even really gets to say something Piper hangs up his coat and cuts him off with “Not now.”

“So when’s good for you?” and Piper just looks right through him, all flat indifference and drawn face. It’s that look like when he’s working on something so hard he forgets there are people except for them being something he can’t explain things to.

“Not now, Axel,” he says, same flat tired way he said Please be careful when Axel was kidding around about how he never set a fire by accident, and starts down the hall. Axel is starting to get angry, feels it jittering through his hands, he doesn’t understand but if he could just get a single honest fucking reaction out of Piper he could start to figure it out–

His bones remember the cold and he can’t move.

At the end of the hall, the door to Piper’s room swings neatly shut.
