Sitting down to (finally) watch the season premiere of Arrow.

Again, the green and red colour cues. I have loved that about this show since season 1.

(this show led me to The Flash, and as such is responsible for… a lot of the last few years.)

Rene + Big Belly Burger

I was thinking about nicknames for characters. I generally don’t have any (saying “Barry!” in that slightly exasperated tone doesn’t count), but I do have one. I didn’t come up with it, but I have adopted it firmly.

So. The light of my life doesn’t watch Arrow with me, but I asked him to check out a scene from s5e11 (specifically Barry running in to give Singh a “he’s legit” note when Oliver calls explaining he needs information). He found that scene funny, but due to a mix-up in timestamps, he also saw the first scene (the one where Rene’s wearing the blue shirt) while he was looking for it.

When the LOML does watch something, he generally pays attention (although he is terrible with character names, which is why he was referring to Oliver as The Tick (”The city. MY the city.”) and Rene as Angry Jason Voorhees (it was a hockey mask thing)) and so he noticed that there is no cheese on Rene’s burger.

LOML: …So I rewound to look at the setup. And we have Angry Jason Voorhees holding up his burger and saying “You can take your time, I’ve got three patties and three slices of cheddar to go”.

LOML: Prop Problem: The burger he’s holding up DOES have three patties, but does not have any cheese.

LOML: I have to assume he’s not lying, which means the cheese is PRESENT, we just can’t see it.

Me: Maybe he picks the cheese off and eats it separately. Like some people do with pickles.

Me: That would not be the least productive thing Rene has ever done.

LOML: You can’t pick cheese off a burger. Certainly not that perfectly.

LOML: The man ordered a triple cheeseburger, CHEESE ON THE SIDE.

LOML: Jason “No Cheese” Voorhees.

And that, readers and gentlefolk, is how Rene Ramirez ended up with the nickname “No Cheese” Voorhees in our household. Weird as heck, but at least I’ve got a handy referent for discussing the character.
