Okay, so I finished The Umbrella Academy.
And then I went back and rewatched this scene.
And… I love it, honestly? This was the scene that hooked me; this was the one that got me past “maybe I will watch this” to “I will watch this unless it really screws up after this point”. This weird moment when they’re all playful for a second, and even if they’re all alone, they’re at least all listening to the same thing.
I love a good found family narrative, don’t get me wrong. But this isn’t that. This is having a family you moved away from and don’t click with and only see at weddings and funerals, and I don’t think I’ve seen another show that nails the awkward disjointed “infrequent but undeniable” relationship vibe like this one does.
